Frequently asked questions

Where is my journal stored? Can you see it?

Only on your device. Stampquill has no servers or accounts, so nobody else can see your journal, including us.

How do I back up my journal?

Include Stampquill in your iCloud or computer device backup, and export a PDF or CSV journal regularly from the Journal tab (Pro). Store exports somewhere secure; they contain signers' personal information.

I got a new phone. How do I move my data?

Restore your new device from an iCloud or computer backup of your old one. Stampquill's data comes along with the backup.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings in Stampquill and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple ID you bought with.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Stampquill. You keep Pro until the end of the current period.

Why can't I edit or delete a journal entry?

Notary journals are append-only, like a bound book. Open the entry and tap Record a Correction; the correction is saved as a new entry linked to the original.

Can Stampquill replace my paper journal?

In many states, yes. Arizona, Hawaii, Missouri, Montana, Nevada and Utah (for commissions from May 6, 2026) require a bound paper journal for traditional notarizations; there, keep your paper journal and use Stampquill as your backup and business record. Always confirm with your commissioning office.

Why is the thumbprint option missing?

Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas don't permit thumbprints in the notary journal, so Stampquill hides it in those states. California requires one for real property deeds and powers of attorney.

How do I charge travel or printing fees?

Add them to the appointment as travel and service fees. They stay separate from the capped notarial fee, can be disclosed in advance with Send Fee Disclosure, and appear as "Other charges" on the itemized receipt. Stampquill warns you about your state's travel-fee limits.

A state rule looks wrong.

Rules change. Please email us with your state and a link to the rule, and we'll update it. Until then, follow your commissioning office's guidance.
